Secure Remote Payment Council Announces Formation
The Secure Remote Payment Council, (SRPc) held its formation meeting and inaugural Board of Directors meeting in Dallas in December to install its Board, elect officers and set its 2010 agenda. The SRPc says it is "dedicated to the growth, development and market adoption of secure eCommerce and mobile payment methods."
Membership in the SRPc is open to any entity that does business in the eCommerce and mobile payments areas including: merchants, financial institutions, merchant processors, Issuer processors, payment brand companies, payments authentication hardware providers, payments authentication software providers, and payments consultants.
ACCEL/Exchange Network, CardinalCommerce Corporation, Chase Paymentech, Heartland Payment Systems, MagTek, Merchant Advisory Group, SHAZAM, Inc., and SWACHA installed directors. Ronald Congemi, past CEO, First Data Debit Services, was also elected a director. Paul Turgeon, President of Payments & Processing Consultants, Inc., was appointed as a Council Special Advisor. Pulse, STAR Debit and ATM Network, Safetypay, and TSYS became members of the council, as well.
The Board elected Dennis Lynch, former CEO of NYCE, to serve as its first Chairperson and Paul Tomasofsky, president of Two Sparrows Consulting, to serve as the Council President and Executive Director. Mr. Tomasofsky will handle the day-to-day management responsibilities of the Council.
“I’m pleased to serve as the chairperson of the Secure Remote Payment Council,” Lynch said. “I believe this organization can be an important catalyst for introducing an array of methods to reduce fraud and improve confidence in the internet/mobile payments world.”
“I am honored to assume a leadership role with the SRPc, and I look forward to working with the members to enhance the environment for secure remote payments,” said Tomasofsky. “2010 will be a year when we add a substantial number of members to the powerful nucleus of organizations we already have in place.”
